May 2009

The Guardian Angels in West Palm Beach, Florida are excited about their upcoming First Annual Fundraising Barbecue coming up this summer on June 27, 2009.

Local Chapter Leader/CKF student Richard Head along with Patrol Coordinator and CKF member Wendell Hilderman have begun a campaign drive to get local businesses and residents to support their upcoming event by bringing people together for a day of Crime Prevention and Awareness.

So far many local businesses and residents have given many donations to make this event become an awesome gathering. This includes the kind donations of "Office Depot"(Lake Worth), "Sub-Way"(Greenacres City), "Pro Karate Supply"(Lake Worth), "William Winkel"-Law Offices (West Palm Beach), "Grumpies Pizza" (Lantana), "Photos by Michael" (Boynton Beach), "Appellee's Restaurant"( Greenacres), "Pete's Restaurant"( Greenacres), "DJ-Mike" ( Lake Worth), "Dunkin-Donuts" (Greenacres), "Wal-Mart"(West Palm Beach), Kelley Karate Center (Jeff Benko & Rocco Lubischer) Demo Team, and special thanks to Deborah McCarthy-Manager of Lantana Cascade Mobile Home park for donating the Club House and allowing this event to even be launched as a community awareness program.

Hello friends and supporters,

As chapter leader of the Palm Beach County Guardian Angels, one of the tasks I am faced with is informing the public of our events and appearances. Below you will find a link you can go to and view our new Guardian Angel calendar. When you get to the calender click on an event and additional information will be available (i.e.location, times, etc.)

We hope you find this service helpful and convenient. If you have any questions or if you would like to have the Guardian Angels attend an event or set up a speaking engagement for your group or organization please contact me with your information.

I would like to thank all of you for your past and continuing support. Without you we would be unable to do what we do for the community. You are the real heroes and role models that makes this work.

The Guardian Angels at the CKF July Seminar

At the July CKF Summer Camp hosted by Florida State Rep. Mike Friedman, the new chapter of Guardian Angels in Orlando, Florida were presented with a "Proclamation" from Mayor Thomas Greene of Lake Mary for their dedication and devotion to fighting crime and making the citizens of Lake Mary feel safer.

A Fundraising dinner for the Angels was organized by Champion Karate, and many of the students, parents and local Angels attended this special event. Guest speakers included CKF President/Guardian Angel veteran Professor Sean Kelley, Professor Rainer Schulte, Master Lee Wedlake, Florida Guardian Angel State Reps William Cruz and his wife Wilka Claro.

The event was held Saturday July 28, 2007 in Lake Mary Florida, and was a huge success. Special applause goes out to honored guests, Kenpo Instructor Tom Sommerville and his wife Mellissa who attended the event, as well as CKF member Bill Larson who flew all the way down from Pennsylvania for the occasion.

A Guardian Angel Testimonial

Dear Mary & Curtis,

Thank You for everything you all stand for! My name is Barb, I had the honor of meeting with Blue and his 2 other fellow Guardian Angels this Sunday morning in Apopka, Florida. I really felt safe with knowing the compassion they have to help us with our gang problem. I am impressed ! My husband felt better also! I spoke to our son this afternoon and proceeded to tell him about these wonderful fella's of the guardian angels, my son sends his thanks too. He feels better now leaving us here in Orlando and he is being deployed overseas, where if something where to happen to us he could not get to us fast. He said if you could not do something that 3 units of Marines would! He said no one messes with a marine mom! God I love that kid of mine! He say's HOORA! SEMPER FI ! And again GOD BLESS! We are looking forward working together to make our town safer.

Thanks again
Barb & Manny

Over the years, Curtis and his Angels have empowered thousands of citizens like Barb and Manny to take responsibility for reclaiming their communities and safeguarding their streets. They are role models for safety, and you can be one too. Your tax-deductible donations fund programs that help make neighborhoods safe - and it's never been more important than now.

Florida Leader Given "Dare to Care" Award

On Saturday, February 11, 2007 during the dinner of the 2007 Kenpo Camp Banquet in West Palm Beach, Florida, 21 year Veteran of the Guardian Angels Sean Kelley made a special announcement. He noted that the 13th of March marks the 28th anniversary of the inception of the Guardian Angels. In celebration of this date, Mr. Kelley made a special presentation to Steve Horton for his dedication, spirit of giving and for serving as a volunteer in this fine organization for over 15 years.

Mr. Horton presently runs the Jupiter, Florida Chapter of the Guardian Angels, although he was originally under Mr. Kelley's Palm Beach Chapter. His many contributions in helping his community with crises such as recent hurricanes and gang violence have made him a local hero. Mr. Horton is well known for volunteering his time speaking in the public schools about the mission of the Guardian Angels.

Mr. Horton’s award was custom made by Ed Parker, Jr., and displayed a likeness of Guardian Angel founder Curtis Sliwa. The award was endorsed by people like Bill Wallace, Joe Lewis, Lee Wedlake, and Sean Kelley who have all participated in Guardian Angel Patrols.

A second award was given to the absent William Cruz who goes by the code name "Gladiator." Gladiator and his wife "Fox" watch over the entire state of Florida as State Representatives for Curtis Sliwa and the Guardian Angels. The couple is currently stationed in Orlando, and is in the process of establishing a new chapter of the Angels, making it impossible for them to attend the ceremony. We wish them great success, and send our prayers for their safety and well-being.
